View the video from last year. It was quite a gathering. The year 2012 promises to be even more grandiose!

You are not from an elementary school and you wish to participate? Now it’s possible! Visit the teachers’ zone.

What is it?

Get up and move is a friendly competition taking place at your school and across all other elementary schools, whether public or private, in the province.

The idea is very simple: the more exercise you get, the more points you accumulate for your school. You increase your school’s chances of winning the 2012 Grand Prize.

2012 Rules

Do you know about the Sharpen Your Gray Matter contest that takes place in November? It’s a fun new contest where you get your brain in shape by doing 15-minute brain-training activities with your family. You can earn gray matter cubes and increase your school’s chances of winning the Grand Prize. A healthy mind and body—that’s a healthy lifestyle!

When is it?

Get up and move at your school: from April 30 to May 28, 2012.

The Grand Prize at the Olympic Stadium: from Saturday, June 16 to Sunday, June 17 2012.

What is the prize?

An unforgettable trip to Montreal on June 16 and 17, 2012!

  • A great gathering of all winning students in the province – around 5,000 – at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal!
  • Access to the finale of the 1,000-km event: Pierre Lavoie will enter the Stadium leading a pack of 900 cyclists. TV cameras, lights, applause; it promises to be a success!
  • Show, games, supper, many surprises and a perfect evening at the Stadium itself.
  • Return journey home, with your head full of pleasant memories.

How do I enter ?

1. Make sure that your school has entered.

Check to see if your school has entered! If your school is not on it, ask your P.E. teacher about it. He or she is the one who can enter your school before April 29, 2012, at 5:00 p.m.

2. Get up and move

  • Accumulate points by doing 15-minute sessions of physical activity throughout the month of May, 7 days a week.
  • Each 15-minute session of exercise = 1 energy cube.
  • At home, ask your family to join forces with you to help you accumulate more energy cubes.
  • Biking, skiing, skateboarding, soccer, walking, active video games (e.g., Kinect, Wii Fit), any activities that increase your heart rate are allowed are admissible.

3. Monitor the progress of your school online.

  • All the energy cubes that your school accumulates are entered on this site by your P.E. teacher.
  • If you get some exercise at home, one of your parents must sign your participant's report to confirm the number of energy cubes accumulated.
  • Every day, all you have to do is log on to the site to see the ranking of your school and find the motivation to be fully committed.

4. And the winners are...

At the end of May, the elementary schools in each of Quebec’s 17 administrative regions with the most GRAND DÉFI* cubes will be eligible to win the Grand Prize, which will be drawn at random. The chances of winning the draw are determined by cube level: bronze (1 entry), silver (2 entries), gold (3 entries). Do you know the 17 administrative regions? (Bas-Saint-Laurent, Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, Capitale-Nationale, Mauricie, Estrie, Montréal, Outaouais, Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Côte-Nord, Nord-du-Québec, Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Chaudière-Appalaches, Laval, Lanaudière, Laurentides, Montérégie, Centre-du-Québec)

*GRAND DÉFI cubes = average grey matter cubes + average energy cubes

Average GRAND DÉFI cubes per student Ranking Number of entries in the draw
260 to 359 GRAND DÉFI cubes Bronze cube 1 entry
360 to 509 GRAND DÉFI cubes Silver cube 2 entries

  • Staff involvement in the Get Up and Move (GUAM) contest

  • Special activities held within or outside of the school as part of the GUAM contest
  • Community outreach during the GUAM contest
