View the video from last year. It was quite a gathering. The year 2012 promises to be even more grandiose!
You are not from an elementary school and you wish to participate? Now it’s possible! Visit the teachers’ zone.
Get up and move is a friendly competition taking place at your school and across all other elementary schools, whether public or private, in the province.
The idea is very simple: the more exercise you get, the more points you accumulate for your school. You increase your school’s chances of winning the 2012 Grand Prize.
Do you know about the Sharpen Your Gray Matter contest that takes place in November? It’s a fun new contest where you get your brain in shape by doing 15-minute brain-training activities with your family. You can earn gray matter cubes and increase your school’s chances of winning the Grand Prize. A healthy mind and body—that’s a healthy lifestyle!
Get up and move at your school: from April 30 to May 28, 2012.
The Grand Prize at the Olympic Stadium: from Saturday, June 16 to Sunday, June 17 2012.
An unforgettable trip to Montreal on June 16 and 17, 2012!
1. Make sure that your school has entered.
Check to see if your school has entered! If your school is not on it, ask your P.E. teacher about it. He or she is the one who can enter your school before April 29, 2012, at 5:00 p.m.
2. Get up and move
3. Monitor the progress of your school online.
4. And the winners are...
At the end of May, the elementary schools in each of Quebec’s 17 administrative regions with the most GRAND DÉFI* cubes will be eligible to win the Grand Prize, which will be drawn at random. The chances of winning the draw are determined by cube level: bronze (1 entry), silver (2 entries), gold (3 entries). Do you know the 17 administrative regions? (Bas-Saint-Laurent, Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, Capitale-Nationale, Mauricie, Estrie, Montréal, Outaouais, Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Côte-Nord, Nord-du-Québec, Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Chaudière-Appalaches, Laval, Lanaudière, Laurentides, Montérégie, Centre-du-Québec)
*GRAND DÉFI cubes = average grey matter cubes + average energy cubes
| Average GRAND DÉFI cubes per student | Ranking | Number of entries in the draw |
| 260 to 359 GRAND DÉFI cubes | Bronze cube | 1 entry |
| 360 to 509 GRAND DÉFI cubes | Silver cube | 2 entries |
| Over 510 GRAND DÉFI cubes | Gold cube | 3 entries |
Pierre Lavoie will choose his Favourite School among participating schools, and that school will automatically qualify for the Grand Prize event.
In an email of 400 words or less, schools must explain why they should be named Pierre Lavoie’s Favourite School, focusing on the following points:
Schools should send their applications to coupdecoeur@legdpl.com by May 29, 2012. Only the winning school will be contacted.
In addition, the school with the greatest average number of energy cubes per student across Quebec will be named the Desjardins champion school and will participate in the Grand Prize.
All students, from kindergarten to Grade 6, from the elementary schools of the province of Quebec, whether they be French-speaking or English-speaking schools.
New this year!
We are welcoming kindergarten students who can now accumulate energy cubes. There will even be a small prize for the kindergarten classes of the contest's winning schools. / par : School staff and their immediate family (spouse and children) can now increase their school’s score by accumulating energy cubes at home.
Those ineligible to compete
Any other organization which takes an interest in being more active and eating better can join in: day-care centres, secondary schools, companies, groups outside Quebec, etc. There is no grand prize to be won, but hours of fun which will do you a lot of good.

The Grand Prize event will take place on June 16 and 17, 2012 in Montréal. Participants will include more than 4,200 students and 900 chaperones from elementary schools throughout Quebec that won the Get Up and Move and Sharpen Your Grey Matter contests, including one school per administrative region in Quebec (17), Pierre Lavoie’s Favourite School and the Desjardins Champion School.
The Grand défi invites all of these students to Montréal, so they can spend an unforgettable surprise- and activity-filled weekend. On Saturday, they will get to have dinner and spend the night at the Olympic Stadium! On Sunday, they will welcome Pierre Lavoie and 900 cyclists, live, to the finale of the 1,000 km event. With TV cameras, lights and applauses, the event promises to be a success!
Transportation, admission to the stadium, activities and all meals are included.
The announcement will take place in the beginning of June. (Date to be confirmed)
The Grand défi will contact each of the winning schools once they are announced. The schools will then have to appoint a person who will be in charge of receiving all the necessary information for preparing the schools for the Grand Prize event. This person will have to ensure that the preparation instructions are being followed by the winning schools. A contact person from the Grand défi will be available at all times to answer the questions of the person in charge.
Each winning school must ensure they have a ratio of one adult chaperone for every five children. Chaperones must be members of the teaching staff, parents or other responsible adults over 18. This person will be responsible for supervising young people throughout the weekend.
The whole weekend—including transportation, meals and activities—is free.
The school arrival time in Montreal will be confirmed later.
All of the meals that are included in the weekend event are free. A booth will be available for students suffering from the most common food allergies (for example, gluten, nuts and dairy products). Please note that for dietary restrictions stemming from other allergies, we recommend that winning schools ensure their students bring their own lunches on the weekend.
Over 400 volunteers will be present throughout to ensure the event runs smoothly, and to handle safety, prepare and serve meals, ensure first aid, etc.
Students will leave the Grand Prize event on Sunday. (Time to be determined)
Over 4,500 students and chaperones from the winning elementary schools from across Quebec spent an unforgettable weekend at the Olympic Stadium on June 18 and 19 in Montreal.
